La Serenissima is a private duplex apartment — one of those rare Venice spaces that genuinely surprise you. On the ground floor: an atmospheric brick entrance hall with antique mirror, leading into open-plan living and kitchen with original wooden beams and a skylight. Up the steel staircase: two bedrooms, each hung with original artworks. And above it all, the altana — a private Venetian rooftop terrace looking over terracotta rooftops and church domes. Three minutes on foot from Piazza San Marco, yet entirely quiet. Every room furnished with care: antiques, curated objects, original paintings — all chosen individually.
An altana is a traditional Venetian wooden rooftop platform — a private outdoor room perched above the city. Ours is fully furnished with a sofa, armchairs, terracotta planters, and a palmetto palm. Surrender to morning coffee with Venice stretching out below. A spritz at golden hour. Quiet and stars after dinner. Private outdoor space of this kind is genuinely exceptional in Venice — you will not find it in most apartments at any price.
The apartment has been furnished with real attention: Venetian wrought-iron bed frame, upholstered armchairs, original artworks on the walls, layered rugs and textiles. These are not generic holiday-rental pieces — they were chosen individually and give the apartment a warmth and character that photographs struggle to capture fully.
Ground floor: The brick entrance hall opens directly from the street — your own independent entrance. This is the arrival space: atmospheric, with an antique mirror and original exposed brick.
First floor: A solid staircase leads up to the main living level — two bedrooms, a bathroom, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with original wooden beams. Antique round dining table, velvet sofa, Nespresso (capsules included), full hob, dishwasher. The kind of curated detail — ceramics, lamps, small sculptures — that makes a space feel genuinely lived-in.
Altana (rooftop): A second staircase from the first floor leads to the private altana terrace — the crown of the apartment. Fully furnished with sofa, armchairs, terracotta planters, and open sky above Venice.
The Biennale Arte runs May through November 2026. La Serenissima is in Castello — the neighbourhood of the Arsenale, the Biennale's largest venue, ten minutes on foot. Book direct for priority access to Biennale and vernissage dates — released two weeks before any OTA platform.
Self check-in via smart lock — code sent before arrival. La Serenissima has an independent entrance directly from the street. The ground floor entrance hall leads to a staircase up to the first floor, where you will find the two bedrooms, bathroom, and living room/kitchen. A further staircase leads from the first floor to the private altana rooftop terrace. Luggage assistance on arrival can be arranged — just ask. Tourist tax is paid in cash on arrival and is not included in the booking price. The Venice Day Visitor Contribution does not apply at our Castello address.
